Jansen Holleboom Dairy Farm is located in Mariënheem. The farm is run by the Jansen Holleboom family. Son Remco tells us more about the barn and its layout. In 2021, a new dairy barn was built. The old dairy barn now serves as a young stock barn. The new dairy barn is equipped with several Spinder products. The 190 dairy cows are milked in a 2 x 12 Rapid Exit milking parlour and are given access to pasture during the day.
Initially, the family wanted to install cubicles in the barn with sand as bedding. However, after visiting several barns, they found this to be too labor-intensive. According to the family, the most comfortable alternative was the Dual waterbeds. “The Dual waterbeds are easy to keep clean, which saves us a lot of work. We also like that we can easily see if, for example, a cow is leaking milk. In a deep litter cubicle, the milk would soak into the bedding, making it impossible to see,” says Remco.
Since moving into the new barn, the cows have gradually started producing more milk. “We’ve seen a significant increase in liters of milk per cow per year. Comfort clearly has an impact on the cows—they lie very comfortably on the Dual waterbeds”.
The dairy barn is equipped with Highline safety feed fronts. “In addition to the cows eating through the feed fronts, we also regularly use the locking feature. For example, during the bluetongue vaccinations, we used the feed fronts to secure the cows. This allowed the vet to vaccinate them safely,” says Remco. “The option to close the entire feed front with a single lever is also very convenient.”
In addition to the Dual waterbeds and the Highline safety feed fronts, the family has installed more Spinder products in the barn:
